Lead times

What happens between your order and the box.

Made to order takes about five weeks and we will not pretend otherwise. If you need something sooner, the stock route is the honest answer, and it is on the other tab.

  • Made to order
  • In stock
01
Order placed
We take your measurements in the shop, or from a pattern you post to us. Nothing is cut yet and nothing is charged beyond the deposit.
Day 0
02
Cloth reserved
Your length comes off the roll and goes on the shelf with your name on the ticket. If the mill is out, you hear from us on this day, not in week four.
Day 2
03
First cut
Panels are cut by hand against your pattern. This is the point after which changes cost money, and we will call you before we reach it.
Day 9
04
Fitting
One fitting in person, or a video call and a set of photographs if you are more than an hour away. Most garments need one; about a fifth need two.
Day 24
05
Finishing
Buttonholes, lining and pressing. Two of these days are only pressing, which is not a rounding error but the reason it hangs the way it does.
Day 31
06
Shipped
Tracked and insured to your door. The median across our last two hundred made-to-order garments was thirty-six days.
Day 38
01
Order placed
Stock is checked against the shelf rather than against the system before we take payment. It is slower by a minute and it is why we almost never cancel.
Day 0
02
Picked and checked
Picked the same afternoon if you ordered before two o’clock. Every garment is looked over against the fault list before it leaves the rail.
Day 0
03
Pressed
Everything is pressed before it goes in the box, including the things that were already pressed when they arrived from the maker.
Day 1
04
Shipped
Tracked and insured to your door. The median across our last two hundred stock orders was one point two days.
Day 1

Days are medians over the last two hundred orders, not targets. The slowest decile is published on the same page, and it is forty-nine days.
