## Planting season 2026

## Four species go in the ground this winter.

All four are grown from seed collected within forty miles of the site. Turn a card for the stock size and where it goes.

## Whips leaving the nursery

## 18,400

Lifted bare-root between November and early March, then heeled in on site. Nothing is potted, nothing is imported, and nothing travels more than a day.

**

### Sessile oak

The slow one. Planted on the drier upper slopes.

**

### 40–60 cm whips

6,200 going in, at 1.5 m spacing on the south bank.

**

### Downy birch

The nurse crop. Shelters everything else for fifteen years.

**

### 60–80 cm whips

5,900 going in, thinned hard from year twelve.

**

### Grey willow

Wet feet welcome. Goes in the flush lines and ditch edges.

**

### Cuttings, 30 cm

3,800 struck from local stools, no rooting hormone.

**

### Hazel

Coppice stock for the lower field, cut on a seven-year rotation.

**

### 40–60 cm whips

2,500 going in, stooled from year four onward.

Beat-up planting runs each spring. Losses above eight percent are replaced at our cost.
